Did you know Bergen is considered the rainiest city in Europe? 🌧️

Today was our last day of our Norway trip, and it rained - non-stop!

Luckily the city has loads to offer on a rainy day, and we decided to check out @akvariet! It had so much to see and do - from exotic fish, sea lions and penguins, to snakes, crocodiles and tortoises! There was also a cafe and both indoor and outdoor play areas.

We always take some time at the end of every trip to reflect on what we’ve done and what we’ve enjoyed - I find it’s a nice way to round off and also helps our daughter remember our trips ❤️

Did you know Bergen is considered the rainiest city in Europe? 🌧️

Today was our last day of our Norway trip, and it rained - non-stop!

Luckily the city has loads to offer on a rainy day, and we decided to check out @akvariet! It had so much to see and do - from exotic fish, sea lions and penguins, to snakes, crocodiles and tortoises! There was also a cafe and both indoor and outdoor play areas.

We always take some time at the end of every trip to reflect on what we’ve done and what we’ve enjoyed - I find it’s a nice way to round off and also helps our daughter remember our trips ❤️

Training for Trolltunga vs hiking Trolltunga… 💪

This hike is probably the most adventurous thing we’ve done with our toddler to date - and it’s definitely given us an “everything is possible” feeling! It took us 13 hours to complete over two days and it was so worth it (despite the sore backs afterwards 😂)

One of the most important things for us on this hike was having a good carrier for Malva. She is 2.5 years old and weighs 15kg, and although she did do some walking by herself, her little legs would get tired quickly and so we needed a safe and comfortable way to carry her.

We used the @philandtedsuk Escape carrier which was comfortable for both us and Malva, giving us the right hip support to take the pressure off our shoulders. And Malva loved being able to look out at the view from up high!

It definitely took some research and preparation to do this hike (and not least getting in shape…) but we did it! 🤩

Training for Trolltunga vs hiking Trolltunga… 💪

We started with a fjord cruise with @rodnefjordcruise in the rain 🌧️ through beautiful Mostraumen (and Malva got to see the captain!)

If you’re feeling up for it, you can hike all the way up (we were still recovering from our 13hr hike to Trolltunga so we enjoyed the 6 min funicular ride instead!)

This is day 8 of exploring Norway with a toddler and we’re taking the scenic route from Ejdfjord to Bergen.

⬇️ Why it was harder hiking down Trolltunga than up

This is day 7 of exploring Norway with a toddler and today was my birthday! 🎈

And what a special way to celebrate your birthday, waking up above the clouds next to one of the most iconic places in Norway 😍

We had set camp just around the corner from Trolltunga, and as soon as we had packed up, we went back to see the famous rock one last time, but it was so cloudy you hardly see it, and at 9.30am there was already a long queue of people there! So we decided to instead hike back down.

So why was it so hard going back down?

My daughter had her final molar come through and she was just not having a good time… We had come prepared with Neurofen (thank goodness) and had to just take it slow - letting her walk, playing games and, for the final leg, bribing her with snacks and a bit of screen time (thank you Cocomelon!).

We headed straight from the hike to @lofthussideri and man, I don’t think a drink ever tasted that good! 🥂

Come back for day 8 to see us chase waterfalls on the scenic route to Bergen!

How did we survive this hike with our 2.5yo toddler? 🥾

This was not an easy hike and we were lucky that the days were really long in Norway so we could take our time.

It was important for us to take regular play breaks so Malva could run around, have lots of snacks and use the right gear. This was a long hike so we needed a carrier which was going to be comfortable for both Andy & I to use and comfortable for Malva to sit in for prolonged periods.

We used the @philandtedsuk Escape Carrier and Malva loved being able to look out and be involved in the conversations. I also found the kickstand and adjustable straps made it really easy to switch between Andy and I so we could share the load of carrying her.

If you’re looking for a smartly designed carrier for your family adventures then I’d recommend the Escape!

Today we started making our way up to Trolltunga! We had pre-booked parking at P3 Mågelitopp, which saves a good few hours of the hike so I would highly recommend this!

Luckily, my husband’s foot was pretty much back to normal, and with the help of some walking poles, he was able to come with us on the hike.

In other news, he dropped his phone into a narrow gorge 🤦🏼‍♀️ We tried to get it back (even got some chewing gum from some bypassers which we attached to one of the walking poles), but sadly, it was too far down 👋

It took us about 7 hours to get to Trolltunga, but we did lots of breaks on the way for snacks and to let our daughter walk/play and we weren’t in a rush as we were camping at the top.

We got there around 8pm and it was completely empty! Felt very special getting it all to ourselves 😍

We set camp about 10 minutes away and had a really cosy evening, right next to the gorgeous fjord.

This was one of the most fun moments from our trip to China last year - if you are visiting the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, make sure you give this a go!

This is day 5 of exploring Norway with a toddler and today the wind had died down so we were finally able to get up to Gaustatoppen!

The peak is 1800 metres high and you can either hike to the top (about a 4-hour hike) or take @gaustabanen - a cable car that goes up through the inside of the mountain!

It was built after the Second World War as Gaustatoppen was chosen by the Norwegian Armed Forces as the location for a secret communication system, and it takes about 15 minutes to get to the top.

The views at the top were gorgeous - and you can actually see a 6th of the entire country from up here!

My husband rolled his ankle and got lost on our hike 🤦‍♀️

Welcome to day 4 of exploring Norway with a toddler and today we’re exploring the mountains around Gausta in beautiful Telemark!

Our initial plan was to hike up to Gaustatoppen, but as the winds were really strong, we decided to instead do an easier and more sheltered hike called Ørnenipa.

This was an absolutely stunning hike through the mountains, it wasn’t very steep and took around 3-4 hours to complete.

We finished the day with incredible floating saunas on the lake Kvitåvatn at @gaustablikkfjellresort - this was honestly such a highlight, and the perfect way to end the day! Not a toddler-friendly activity but there was a playground right next to the resort if wanted to take it in turns.

But what happened to my husband?

He rolled his ankle at the start of the hike and then got lost trying to find his way back to the car… after a while, a friendly Norwegian man found him, walked him to his house and taped up his ankle for him. He then drove him back to our car so my husband could get back to our cabin.

He was ok but had to stay home and rest up with our toddler while the rest of us went to the sauna 🤕

Come back for day 5 when we a cable car up through the inside of a mountain to Gaustatoppen 🗻

This day 3 of exploring Norway with a toddler, and today we’re leaving Oslo behind headed for Gaustatoppen! 🏔️

We started off our day by exploring the Oslo Opera House @operaen_ , and our daughter loved being able to freely run around and climb all the way up to the roof! We also managed to catch a glimpse of Oslo Pride before hitting the road.

The drive to Gausta was absolutely beautiful, past thick forests and open fjords, and we arrived at our cabin just before dinner.

We ended our day with a midnight walk and the sun still hadn’t fully set!

This day 3 of exploring Norway with a toddler, and today we’re leaving Oslo behind headed for Gaustatoppen! 🏔️

We started off our day by exploring the Oslo Opera House @operaen_ , and our daughter loved being able to freely run around and climb all the way up to the roof! We also managed to catch a glimpse of Oslo Pride before hitting the road.

The drive to Gausta was absolutely beautiful, past thick forests and open fjords, and we arrived at our cabin just before dinner.

We ended our day with a midnight walk and the sun still hadn’t fully set!

⬇️ This cave is just 30 mins away from Oslo!

Welcome to Day 1 of exploring Norway with a toddler. We’re starting off just outside of Oslo, where we staying out on the peninsula Nesodden.

To get here, get the ferry 602 from Aker Brygge in central Oslo to Nesoddtangen, which only takes 20 mins. There are also several bus routes that take you to different parts of the peninsula.

Nesodden is full of great swim spots and beautiful nature, perfect for picking wild berries and evening swims 🫐

But the coolest thing we found, was a cave called Spro Gruve.

The cave is an old stone mine full of a shiny mineral called Muscovite which makes the cave shimmer in the sunlight. The mineral has also spread to the nearby beach, which has been nicknamed ‘Diamond Beach’ 💎

It’s the perfect day trip from Oslo if you’re looking to do something a bit different!

We decided to camp at the top to break up the hike, and also avoid the masses of tourists. When we arrived at the top at 8pm there was no one else there so we got the place all to ourselves!

We set camp five minutes away next to the fjord and it was such a magical experience. When we came back to Trolltunga at 9am the next morning, it was already really crowded, so I feel so lucky to have been able to experience this place completely empty!

Dreaming back to all the amazing food we had in Morocco ❤️

Moroccan food is so fragrant and rich in flavour - we loved trying everything the country had to offer - from flavourful tagines, to freshly caught seafood and incredible street food (our toddler was a big fan too as you can see from all the hand grabbing! 😂)

DAY 26

Beijing was truly an incredible trip, and a place I would 100% recommend visiting if you get the chance, but there are a few things to bear in mind if you are going.

A few things I was prepared for, like the internet firewalls blocking western apps, but others took me a bit by surprise, like how hardly anyone spoke even a word of English.

The thing I found most challenging though was how everywhere we went, people would take photos of my daughter without asking for permission.

We had to constantly shield her and even ask people to delete photos they’d taken. I know there probably wasn’t any malicious intent, and I didn’t mind people asking, but it made me feel uneasy and like I always had to watch for cameras and phones pointing in our direction.

That aside, it was a really special trip and a truly beautiful place. And having two Mandarin speakers in the group definitely helped!

DAY 19

We took our 2.5-year-old to see one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World - the Iguazu Falls. And was it worth it? Absolutely.

Straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil, the Iguazu Falls is the largest system of waterfalls in the world and it’s just one of those places you need to experience at least once in your life!

DAY 19

DAY 18 - Midsummer

DAY 16 - Morocco

Don’t get me wrong - Marrakech is an incredible city and there is plenty to do here - but did you know that these three places are all doable as day trips from Marrakech?

There is so much beautiful landscape surrounding the city - in the space of three days, we had skied in the mountains, ridden camels in the desert and swam in crystal clear gorges.

I would highly recommend going to at least one of these places:

⛷️ Atlas Mountains - only a couple of hours’ drive from Marrakech - have lunch in Ourika Valley and then continue up to Oukaïmeden through stunning snow-clad mountains

🐪 Agafay Desert - only 1 hour from Marrakech (it’s not the Sahara but it’s a good alternative if you’re short on time). Go for a sunset camel ride and enjoy a dinner show at one of the desert camps

🌴 Paradise Valley - you can do this from Marrakech (3hrs drive) or you could stay in Taghazout/Agadir instead. Beautiful pools of water in the red mountains

DAY 16 - Morocco

Don’t get me wrong - Marrakech is an incredible city and there is plenty to do here - but did you know that these three places are all doable as day trips from Marrakech?

DAY 15 - Croatia & Montenegro

Steal our itinerary for South Croatia and Montenegro ✨

Our first holiday (not counting the UK and Sweden) with our daughter when she was 9 months old - this is what made us want to continue travelling!

We spent 7 days flying in and out of Dubrovnik, exploring beaches, towns, city life and islands.

DAY 13 - Swedish Midsummer

🌸This Friday, Swedes celebrate Midsummer in honour of the summer solstice - the longest day of the year 🌸

It’s a day of dancing around the maypole, wearing floral dresses and homemade flower crowns, eating pickled herring and strawberries, swimming in the sea and lakes and spending time with friends and family (and if you pick 7 wildflowers you might even dream of your future love…) 💘

It’s my favourite Swedish holiday and we go every year with our daughter - if you haven’t already been, it is definitely one to add to your list!

DAY 12 - Argentina

🇦🇷You might have heard of Patagonia, but did you know about the Salta & Jujuy regions in Northern Argentina?

This was probably the most stunning road trip we’ve ever done - the landscape just didn’t seize to amaze us!

From salt flats to cactus groves, prairie to jungle, rainbow mountains to vineyards - and everything in between 🌵

We spent 8 days in this region, doing a loop that started and finished in the city of Salta. We tried to keep the drives as short as possible for our toddler, but the landscape is so beautiful you end up stopping everywhere!

Apart from the beautiful scenery, we also saw lots of wildlife, including llamas, wild horses, foxes, tarantulas, and birdlife, and we also had some incredible food and wine (my favourite was the small empanadas called slateñas)

This should definitely go on your bucket list! 😍
