Lisbon is one of those European cities that just seems to have everything - sunshine, beach, history, culture, kids-activities - and great food! We spent a week in Lisbon and its nearby surroundings and had some absolutely incredible meals while we were there, so much so that I thought it deserved its very own blog post.
If you want more tips on what to do in Lisbon with kids, check out my full Lisbon itinerary here.
Time out market

If it's your first time in Lisbon, visiting the iconic Time Out Market is a must! It is a popular tourist attraction and will get busy, but the food is worth it! The market is made up of 26 different restaurants and feature some of Lisbon's most well-known chefs. It's a great and affordable way to taste high-quality Portuguese cuisine.
Try: Pinóquio, Miguel Castro E Silva and pastel de nata from Manteigaria
Avoid: Croqueteria
Location: Avenida 24 de Julho, 1200-479 Lisbon
Price range: £-£££

Paloma Negra
We had this place recommended to us by a friend and it was genuinely some of the best Mexican food I have ever had! It's one of those hole-in-the-wall places (they don't take reservations so I would recommend going early to make sure to get a table!) and the food and drinks were both absolutely delicious! Make sure to try the oyster shot!
Try: oyster shots
Location: R. Washington 98A, 1170-395 Lisboa, Portugal
Price range: £-££
Antú Alfama
The Alfama area is great for restaurants, but can feel a little overwhelming as it is a popular area for tourists. We found this great spot which was a bit hidden - away from all the tourist traps! The space is lovely with outdoor seating underneath a pergola and the food was delicious, serving traditional Portuguese dishes like black rice with grilled octopus.
Try: polenta fries
Location: Beco de São Miguel, 1100-538 Lisboa, Portugal
Price: ££

Pinóquio
If you want traditional Portuguese food, then this is an iconic spot. The main restaurant is located next to Rossio train station, and it has become somewhat of a tourist attraction so booking a table is essential. They now also have a restaurant in Time Out Market which is where we ate, so if you don't manage to get a table at the main restaurant you can still try their food here.
Try: their seafood options
Location: Praça dos Restauradores 79 80, 1250-188 Lisboa, Portugal
Price range: ££
Street Chow
When we want something different on holiday, we always resort to Asian food. This Vietnamese restaurant really hit the spot - great food and drinks and a cozy atmosphere!
Try: summer rolls
Location: R. Tomás Ribeiro 20, 1050-229 Lisboa, Portugal
Price range: £-££
Buga Ramen
Another different spot is Buga Ramen - this Japanese restaurant really leans into the Japanese theme with neon lights, anime art and robots bringing the food to your table. If you're a fan of Japanese culture and anime, then you'll love this spot (the food was really tasty too!).
Location: Alameda dos Oceanos 61D, 1990-208 Lisboa, Portugal
Price range: £-££

Pasteis de Belem
Of course, no trip to Lisbon is complete without sampling some pastel de natas! This is the iconic place where the custard tart originates from - it is a popular spot but the queues move quickly!
Location: R. de Belém 84 92, 1300-085 Lisboa, Portugal
Price range: ££

Volta e Meia
This place was such a nice surprise - it's located near the station in Sintra and it was the perfect place to end a great day trip exploring the castles. The food is mediterranean dishes that feel a bit more modern and it was incredible - 10/10! We sat in the quiet restaurant garden which was a lovely setting and as it wasn't busy, my daughter could walk around and explore while we waited for our food.
Try: shrimps with garlic
Location: Volta do Duche 2, 2710-631 Sintra, Portugal
Price range: ££
Mercado da Vila
If you're visiting the seaside town Cascais, this is a lovely seafood restaurant in the Time Out Market (smaller version of the iconic Lisbon market). There is plenty of option, and afterwards you can spend some time exploring the market (much quieter than the original market in Lisbon).
Location: R. Padre Moisés da Silva 1, 2754-529 Cascais, Portugal
Price range: ££
